Wow, having a real job makes it very difficult to find time to take photographs.
I was pawing over some images today, trying to find one of The Highline Park i had taken recently, to include in this set, but i couldn’t find it. It turned out i couldn’t find it because i didnt take it recently at all. In fact the last time i went to The Highline to try to figure out how to capture it on camera was last June! Where does the time go? No, seriously, I’ve probably been out on photo shoots five times since then. No wonder i didnt notice when i suddenly became old. I suppose this is a good reminder that sometimes we just have to manufacture time to do the things we enjoy, rather than just waiting for it to present itself.
As for The Highline itself. What an amazing structure. A park built on a derelict, raised train track, it’s unique, and incredibly New York. Snaking through Chelsea with views of the Hudson and the Empire State building along its route you’ll find it blossoming with flowers and colour in the summer (not to mention packed with tourists) and bleak with long brown grass in the winter. In fact my favourite shot in this set is the centre pannel, taken on an icy, windy, winters day. My girlfriend thought it looked like the grass was trying to take over the city. Now wouldn’t that be something?
Oli.
